HBCU Grad Creates a Hip-Hop Anthem About the Importance of HBCUs

Tara Lynn

Sacramento, CA — As a higher education professional, author, motivational speaker and artist, Tara Lynn Crawford is not a stranger to hard work. In fact, the Sacramento native is very familiar with identifying with and overcoming the typical adversities that African Americans are subjected too.

Prior to graduating college, earning a near six figure salary, or mentoring hundreds of college students, Tara was navigating through what some would consider a myriad of unknown and unthinkable adversities. Adversities such as attempting to navigate through the depths of the foster care system. After emancipating in 2013, the scholar attended Alabama A&M University and had a very fulfilled college career.

Today, the 25-year old has recently written a book (Unmasked Yet Covered) and recorded a soundtrack that creatively discuss ways to overcome similar challenges. The premier single called “HBCU” is a hip-hop record that speaks to the importance and relevancy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The song is amazing and embodies the culture and true essence of all HBCUs.
