Pearland, TX — An assistant principal at Berry Miller Junior High School in Texas has been placed on administrative leave and is facing other disciplinary actions after drawing on a student’s head using a permanent marker.
“He came over and said, ‘You have two options: You can either go to (in-school suspension) or color it in,'” Juelz told ABC13. “Everyone was coming up to me. It was like the talk of the school that day and the day after.”
Trice’s mother, Angela Washington, expressed her disappointment on the incident through a Facebook post. She said the school did not inform her and she only knew about it when her son arrived home. She also posted a picture of Juelz’s head still with the permanent marker two days after the incident.
Aside from the embarrassment Juelz went through because of the incident, his father Dante Trice was also concerned about the medical danger of putting chemicals on open pores could have caused his son.
“It was wide open because he had just got his hair cut the day before, so it was wide open,” he said. “I’m totally disappointed. Totally disappointed.”
Meanwhile, Pearland Independent School District said in a statement that the student’s haircut indeed violated the dress code which states, “Hair must be neat, clean and well groomed. Extreme hairstyles such as carvings, mohawks, spikes, etc. are not allowed.” However, it does not determine what should be done to a student who’d violate the rules.
His mother confirmed that the assistant principal already reached out to them. She said, “They were very apologetic, but it still happened. You know, for an adult, no one should think that’s the correct way to handle a situation.”
Moreover, Juelz already returned to school. The assistant principal has been suspended and “further action is forthcoming,” school officials said.
