Mom’s Death Leads Daughter to Create Solution to Stop Scalp Pain Caused By Tight Hair Braiding

Nationwide — This is the sad but triumphant story of Rose Bianco, the creator of a product called Too Tight Scalp Saver that soothes scalp pain caused by tight braids, weave styles, and/or a tender scalp.

In February 2016, Rose’s mother died in her home of kidney failure. As an only child, she stood alone by her bedside to the end. Several weeks late, she underwent surgery to repair the muscle and joint damage caused by the many months of lifting her sick mother. After months of recovery and physical therapy, her condition took a turn for the worse.

Rose comments, “Seems like out of nowhere I developed severe vertigo with a host of other symptoms. The right side of my body became weak, my right eye turned blood red and swollen shut, and the right side of my face contorted and drooped. Doctors immediately diagnosed my condition as a stroke.”

After having an MRI and a CAT Scan, however, the stroke theory was ruled out. Over many, many months she saw three eye specialists, two cardiologists, and several other medical specialists and had all types of medical tests with no conclusive diagnosis.

“Those were dark days,” Rose says. “My husband became my caretaker. He was my rock and he was determined to find a doctor that could help me. Without him, I would have given up. Finally, I was referred to a neurologist. She reviewed my records and ordered very specific imaging of my spine, brain, and then a spinal tap. All tests came back negative.”

Then on one visit, she told her that she thinks that she was suffering from a somewhat rare type of headache, a headache without pain. Instead of pain, this type of headache presents itself with symptoms only. The swollen red eye, facial distortion, vertigo, and weakness are caused by this type of headache, and it can affect just one side of the body. The cause is unknown.

“She further told me she had a fix, not a cure,” she says. “The fix was 32 injections into my scalp, neck, and forehead. That doctor saved my life, and those 32 shots changed my life, the trade-off was a very sore scalp for several days.”

She was told that she would have to get these shots every three months for a period of time or for the rest of her life. So far, she is four years in and still getting the shots. Knowing that she had to do this four times a year or maybe forever, as an Aromatherapist, she decided to develop a solution to stop her scalp pain. And she did just that.

Weeks later, a friend of Rose was complaining about scalp pain associated with her recent hair weave. She gave her the roll-on solution and within 5 minutes she was pain-free. She praised the product and told others. Over time the product helped many others and spread by word of mouth.

Rose comments, “I never really tried to market it until 2020. One day I was standing in line at Walmart behind two young girl with fresh braids, and one girl said ‘these braids are too tight. My head is on fire.’ The phrase ‘Too Tight’stuck in my head, and on that day the product was born.

Now, Too Tight Scalp Saver is a real product that provides a remedy that soothes scalp pain caused by tight braids, weave styles, and/or a tender scalp. Made from a combination of natural emollients, essential oils, and a mild anesthetic, this formula relieves the physical pain experienced when braids are tight, cornrows pinch, and weave tracks pull, bind, and constrict. It is immediately soothing and cooling to the scalp.

Rose continues, “As a Black business owner, a former braid wearer, and now a person that must endure scalp trauma as part of my life. It gives me joy and purpose to have taken a sad circumstance and turned it into a way to potentially help many. My mother’s death left me with a broken heart, taking care of her gave me a broken body and a physical challenge to overcome. However, she always told me, ‘Out of something bad, something good can happen if you only follow the signs.’
