Cincinnati, OH — Cincinnati Police Officer Ken Brown, who deployed a taser on an 11-year old Black girl whom he allegedly caught shoplifting, is facing disciplinary actions after investigations concluded that he violated the policy regarding the use of a taser.

In an incident last month, Officer Ken Brown used a taser on an 11-year old girl whom he accused of shoplifting. He said the girl resisted arrest and tried to run away that’s why he deployed the taser on her.

In a video footage from Brown’s body camera, he could be seen escorting the girl and two other juveniles back into the Kroger store where they reportedly stole more than $50 in food and clothing.

“Sweetheart. The last thing I want to do is tase you like that. When I say stop, you stop. You know you’re caught. Just stop. That hurt my heart to do that to you,” Brown could be heard telling the girl after shocking her with a taser.

The girl had to be taken to Children’s Hospital after the incident. She was charged with theft and obstruction of justice.

According to the guidelines, officers are allowed to use tasers on anyone 7-years old and above. However, upon the request of Vice Mayor Christopher Smitherman and Police Chief Eliot Isaac, an investigation has been launched.

The police review concluded that Officer Brown indeed violated policy when he did not warn the girl first about the taser. The investigations also discovered that Brown did not turn on his camera on time and even expressed a racial prejudice.

“You know what sweetheart? This is why there aren’t any grocery stores in the black community, because of all of this going on,” Brown was heard saying.

The disciplinary actions Brown will receive were not made public.
