Newly-Engaged Couple Killed In Wrong-Way Car Crash on Thanksgiving Day

Engaged couple killed in car accident in Tampa, Florida

Nationwide — Yvette Alexandre, 21, and her fiancé, 24-year-old LaShay Waiter sadly were killed in a tragic car accident on Thanksgiving day. The couple had only been engaged for one month, and Yvette was reportedly pregnant with their first child.

Authorities say that their vehicle collided with another driver on the interstate highway who was driving in the wrong direction.

Both Yvette and Lashay were reportedly wearing their seatbelts, but still died because of the impact. The accident happened in the early afternoon, but they were both pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital later that evening. The two met about 3 years ago at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

State police say that the driver who caused the accident was a 21-year old who apparently slammed head-on into the couple’s car. He too was killed in the accident, and authorities are currently awaiting a toxicology report to determine if alcohol played a part in what happened.

Their families were shocked and devastated when they heard the news.

Yvette’s father, Robert, told reporters, “I’d like to know why he was driving on the opposite side of the highway.”

He also talked about how much of a gentlemen his soon-to-be son-in-law was, especially when he privately asked for his permission to marry his daughter.

“I found that admirable, especially given the young men of this era who don’t understand the value of chivalry,” Robert said.
