Cordelia Adair, mother who was arrested for chemical endangerment of her children
Montgomery, AL — Cordelia Adair, a mother from Montgomery, Alabama, is facing multiple charges after five of her children tested positive for cocaine. Authorities discovered that she exposed her own children to illegal drugs.
The arrest affidavit cited that the children’s exposure to cocaine occurred from June to September 2018. Montgomery’s Department of Human Resources was the one who reported the supposed illegal activity
“MPD was contacted by DHR on Sept. 6 in reference to possible drug activity in the home,” MPD Capt. Regina Duckett said. “Following a joint investigation with DHR, warrants were secured against Adair. She was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force on Sept. 21 and charged.”
The DHR officials did not comment on the case and the investigation due to certain privacy laws. The condition of the children was also not made public.
Chemical endangerment of a child, a felony under state law, is classified into three. Adair was charged with a Class C felony for “knowingly, recklessly, or intentionally” causing or allowing a child to be exposed to a controlled substance. Class B chemical endangerment would be leveled if a child “suffers serious physical injury” and Class A if a child dies as a result of the substance exposure.
Adair was originally in custody on a $15,000 bond per count, but Montgomery County District Judge Jimmy Pool reduced it to half, making it $7,500 per count.
