Black pregnant woman who died from COVID-19 with healthy baby

London, UK — Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong, a 28-year old pregnant nurse from London, has sadly died of COVID-19 after giving birth. However, her baby has reportedly survived and has been doing “very well” after being delivered via emergency cesarean section.

Agyapong, who worked as a nurse at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital for 5 years, was admitted to the hospital two days after she tested positive of the coronavirus according to CNN.

Her husband is currently in self-quarantine, awaiting results for his COVID-19 test.

David Carter, CEO of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said Agyapong was “a highly valued and loved member of our team, a fantastic nurse and a great example of what we stand for in this trust.”

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mary’s family and friends at this sad time,” he said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support her husband and her baby, and has so far raised over £150,000 (about $187,000 USD) in almost 2 days.

The fundraising page was also flooded with praises and appreciation from people who love her and even those who just read about her story.

“I couldn’t have wished for a better mentor in my sign-off placement. You helped shape the nurse I have become,” Catherine Clewes wrote.

“I’m deeply touched by this and my heart goes out to all close family members and friends. Im grateful little one was safe,” Deborah Akintola said.
