17-Year Old Black Student Facing Serious Charges After His White Classmate Sends Him a Naked Video of Herself

Bossier City, LA — Levar Allen, a 17-year-old student athlete at Parkway High School in south Bossier City, Louisiana, is now facing serious charges that could lead to time in prison after his 16-year old classmate sent him naked footage of herself. Reportedly, she sent Levar a nude video first and then he responded by sending her one in return. But when her parents found out, they reported it to the police.

Allen has since been arrested and is facing child porn charges, but the girl has not been arrested or charged. Her name has not even been released to the media.

When asked if this was a racial issues, Lt. Bill Davis, the Public Information Officer for the Sheriff’s officer, told reporters: “I have nothing to say about that. It doesn’t matter what your race, what your religion, what your ethnicity, don’t do child pornography! Plain and simple.”

But civil rights activists say otherwise. They say it’s racism at its best. they argue that both teens are underage (she is 16 and he is 17), that she sent him a video first, that it was consensual, and that this case is “a bogus symptom of the mass criminalization of black folk in the New Jim Crow.” They also argue that sexting is very popular among teenagers citing a recent study that found that 1 in 4 teenagers have done it before.

Allen’s mother, Chasity Washington, says she definitely believes that race has played a factor in the arrest. “I think because she’s white, the parents got upset that she’s been doing what she’s been doing.”

So, what does the Louisiana state law say?

Unfortunately, Louisiana state law isn’t quite working out in Allen’s defense. The state law says that anyone under the age of 17 found to be sexting any person of any age CAN be charged with a misdemeanor. This means that a 17-year old and a 16-year old, even if acting consensually, can be charged with with child pornography.

Reportedly, Allen has been released from prison on a $15,000 bond, but still has to face the charges in a court of law. His family says they expect to pay at least $4,000 in legal fees for his case. Meanwhile, the 16-year old girl who sent him the video has yet to be arrested or charged.
