Montgomery, AL — Johnnie Lee Gray III, a 45-year old man from Alabama, is facing criminal charges including attempted murder after allegedly setting his wife on fire following a heated verbal confrontation last month. He was arrested just last week on the charge.

On February 16 at around 4 p.m., Gray allegedly got into an argument with his 44-year old wife, whose name was not released publicly, at their home. The heated confrontation led to him reportedly pouring rubbing alcohol on his wife and setting her on fire.

The police were called to the scene. When they arrived, they found his wife already burnt on over 50 percent of her body, Montgomery police Sgt. Jarrett Williams. Police said the reason behind the argument has yet been known.

Gray’s wife was treated at a local hospital. Montgomery police did not provide any other information regarding her condition besides stating her injuries were life-threatening.

Gray, who was detained in connection to the burning, was also taken to the hospital because he apparently burnt and injured himself while setting his wife on fire.

Gray was arrested after being released from the hospital. He is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $60,000 bond.
