Couple Gets Married During Black Lives Matter Protest in Philadelphia

Black couple getting married during protest

Nationwide — Kerry Anne and Michael Gordon, an African American couple from Philadelphia, got married on June 6th and celebrated their wedding day with thousands of protesters as they joined them in the Black Lives Matter protest.

Michael, who is 42-years old, and his wife Kerry Anne, who is 35-years old, stood out in the crowd of protesters as they wore their wedding attire — tuxedo and gown — during the protests.

They joined the march right after getting married at the city hall. Despite knowing about the protest, they decided to continue their wedding as they already postponed their larger wedding party to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The newly-wed couple said they did not really plan to take part in the protest until they somehow got into the crowd. And they did not regret it.

“It ended up being a very powerful moment,” Kerry Anne told ABC News. “Not only are we feeling the movement of the people… but I’m meeting my husband, on our wedding day, as a strong black man and a good representative of who we are as people, what our men are like, what our culture is like. It was just a very, very empowering moment for us considering all of this is happening at one moment in one time.”

“We all see this injustice. We all want to see this needle shift away from the status quo and … that made this day more memorable in ways,” Michael said.

Meanwhile, a video of their sweet moment as the protesters cheered them on has since gone viral.
