Silver Spring, MD (BlackNews.com) – Eight-time Grammy Award-winner Natalie Cole offers viewers a personal glimpse of her tumultuous yet blessed life story in TV One on One with Cathy Hughes premiering Sunday, September 24 from 9-10 PM ET. The special repeats on Monday, September 25 at 1 PM ET.

Ms. Cole talks with Ms. Hughes about losing her father - the legendary Nat King Cole - at 15, her battle for sobriety, the vocal chord injury that almost took away her career, her acting career, privileged upbringing, family and faith in a wide-ranging interview.

Ms. Cole describes a privileged upbringing, living "right down the street" from the Los Angeles Times' Chandler family, the Gettys and the governor of California. She tells Ms. Hughes she didn't "connect to my blackness" until she attended college at the University of Massachusetts, where "I grew my hair, got a great big Afro," and "every demonstration we had on campus, I was in the front row."

She talks about her parents' relationship, saying "I think one of the reasons my dad married my mom was because she was so outspoken. . .My dad was more low key. He wouldn't yell or raise his voice, or even get mad or anything like that. My mother was the spitfire, I think, in that relationship. . .And she, inspired and encouraged him to go out there and 'do your thing, because you are talented; you are the best.'"

Ms. Cole talks about celebrating 23 years of sobriety, saying, "I had to give up pretty much everything in order to stay sober. I had to give up boyfriends, certain relationships. I had to give up my home."

Her new Verve release, Leavin' comes out September 26, and is produced by award-winning producer Dallas Austin, whom she met working on the soundtrack for Tyler Perry's Diary of a Mad Black Woman.

Ms. Cole is joined in the final segment by her 28-year-old son, musician Robert Yancy, who talks about his career aspirations and the multi-generational family legacy of fame and artistic talent and its impact on him.
