Miami, FL (BlackNews.com) - Seven of the country's most influential businessmen came together in Miami to celebrate the NFL's biggest game. This year, there was a little something extra special about the evening, as two African American coaches prepared to go head-to-head in gridiron combat for the first time in NFL history.

Co-host and founder of the event Julius Hollis said honoring NFL Labor Relations V.P. Harold Henderson is even more meaningful this year. In his role with the NFL, Henderson serves as the driving force behind the NFL Player Programs.

"This is truly a remarkable moment in American history," said Hollis. "African Americans have had to overcome at every level of our society, but this weekend we celebrate the accomplishments of Coaches Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy, who are both are shining examples success in a society that has not always welcomed their advances."

Hollis is CEO of Hollis and Company, an investment counseling firm based in Atlanta with an office in South Africa.

Other co-hosts include Detroit businessman Robert S. Shumake, Founder and CEO, Inheritance Capital Group; Earl Cummings, managing partner, BA Disposition Solutions, a national property management and technical staffing firm in Houston; Ernest Green, managing director, Fixed Income, Lehman Brothers/Washington, D.C.; Willard Jackson, founder, president and CEO of Houston based Metroplex Industries, Lloyd Moore and David Rivers.

Also honored were President of AT&T Georgia, Sylvia Anderson and R. Donahue Peebles, owner of the Bath Club and Chairman of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Robert Shumake said the Super Bowl celebration brings together some of the biggest names in the African American business, political and entertainment communities.

"This evening is a nice parallel displaying the power of winning scenarios. It is nice to be among African American businessmen who can celebrate winners on the field and in the front offices of the NFL," he said.

Some of those in attendance were Congressman John Conyers, (D) Michigan; President and CEO of Black Entertainment Television (BET) Debra Lee; Congressman Kendrick Meek (D), Florida; and Houston Texans General Manager Rick Smith.

The event was held on Friday at the swanky, newly renovated Bath Club on Miami Beach. The club, which used to be exclusive to African Americans and Jews, is now owned by black businessman R. Donahue Peebles.
