Norris
founded Nene's Creations after becoming frustrated at
the lack of appropriate scrapbooking supplies including
African Americans. "I could find borders and papers
with people of color, but they literally were the same
mainstream designs just painted brown," she said. "I
wanted features and products reflecting distinct events
that reflect my life and heritage."
In her product lines, all of the characters are of color
and have corresponding ethnic features. In addition
to holidays and events all scrapbookers commemorate,
like a new baby, graduation and holidays, Norris included
papers for barbecues and beauty shops - sites of gatherings
particularly of interest to many in the African-American
community. New papers feature Air Force and Army personnel.
The demand for the ethnic scrapbooking supplies has
been so great that Norris is expanding her sticker lines.
The new designs highlight school activities, like cheerleading,
basketball and dance team.
"I
think its important to teach our children and grandchildren
to celebrate their successes," Norris said. "Nene's
Creations gives us the opportunity to commemorate those
once-in-a-lifetime events, and in the context of the
African-American community."
Future Scrapbooking episodes featuring Norris will cover
subjects regarding celebrating our troops in the military
and The Book of Me, celebrating a child's first scrapbook.
