Attorney Achieves Status of "Advocate" From ATLA
Atty. Brenda L. Page
Richmond, VA
(BlackNews.com) - Brenda L. Page, principal in the law
firm of Page & Associates Law Office, P.C. in Richmond,
Virginia, recently attained the recognition of Advocate
pursuant to the National College of Advocacy Achievement
Recognition Program of the Association of Trial Lawyers
of America (ATLA). The distinction highlights Attorney
Page's commitment to effectively represent her clients
through professional development and continuing education.
Several years ago, Attorney Page, represented the estate
of a young mother who was killed in a tractor-trailer
accident. The young mother was survived by four children,
ages 6, 5, 2, and three months old, at the time of her
death. The defendant trucking company argued that the
value of the mother's life was not of great value because
she was unmarried, lived in subsidized housing, was
unemployed, had not completed high school, had her children
by two different men, and was receiving welfare benefits
at the time of her death.
Attorney
Page interviewed neighbors and friends and obtained
compelling evidence that the young woman was an extremely
good mother. The two year-old child had suffered a traumatic
brain injury and needed constant care. The mother provided
cared for the child valiantly, all while providing excellent
care to her other children. Attorney Page argued the
mother's life was priceless to her children who relied
upon her for love, nurturing, protection, guidance and
care that only a mother can provide.
The case
was settled the first day of trial for $4.25 million.
Attorney Page structured the settlement by taking the
cash up front and purchased annuities. This resulted
in the settlement having a $27 million pay out over
the children's life expectancy.
