North Carolina Gets First Black Book Festival

Winston-Salem, NC (BlackNews.com) - Thousands of readers and best-selling authors are expected to gather in the beautiful city of Winston Salem, NC to celebrate black literature next spring for the first annual North Carolina Black Book Festival.

"March 31, 2006, marks the inauguration of the North Carolina Black Book Festival, an annual literary event geared solely towards African-American readers and writers. This festival was formed to promote literacy in North Carolinas black community and to be a liaison to authors and readers of black literature," said event Founder & Coordinator Joseph C. Dixon of Imagem Publishing.

On April 1, the festival will host a Book Extravaganza. Attendees can chose from an array of panel/author discussions, book signings, workshops and more all free admission to the general public. Admission to this all day affair is free, but seat reservations may be required for certain scheduled events.

The festival will feature authors such as Stacy Hawkins Adams, Vincent Alexandria, A.C Arthur, L.A. Banks, Cassandra Daren Bell, Jamise L. Dames, Angie Daniels, Collen Dixon, Gywnne Forster, Nina Foxx, Bettye Griffin, Vanessa Davis Griggs, Byron Harmon, Linda Hudson-Smith, Ryan Phillips, Linda Dominique Grosvenor, Felicia Madlock, Brandon Massey, Tia McCollors, Marissa Monteilh, Kendra Norman-Bellamy, Electa Rome Parks, Eric Pete, Karen Siplin, Jacquelin Thomas, Van Whitfield and many more.

North Carolina Black Book Festival Mark of Achievement

The Opening Night Literary Gala is set for Friday, March 31, 2006, at 6 p.m., at the Sundance Plaza Hotel & Suites in Winston-Salem, NC. Best-selling romance and Christian-fiction writer Jacquelin Thomas will receive the first annual North Carolina Black Book Festival Writers Achievement Award. Jacquelin Thomas is author to highly recognized novels including, The Prodigal Husband, Soul Journey and her recent celebrated novel Saved in the City. The gala's keynote speaker will be author and eight-time Emmy award winning news producer Byron Harmon. Tickets are required for this black-tie affair.
