She stated, "I wrote Dialogue of the Heart & Mind with the intent to encourage reader's to do some honest self assessment into to their own 'stuff' regarding relationships. By doing this we come to a better understanding about why they work or don't and more importantly, what assumptions we make about being in relationships and the expectations that come from that."
Fueled by a newspaper article two years ago that suggested African American women are scaring men off, Carla gathered input from single, married, and divorced men and women, both friends and strangers to determine if this was actually true. Her goal...to generate honest and open dialogue between the sexes and encourage more soul searching about relationships by posing questions, such as:
* What does being in a relationship really mean?
* Are we desperate to be in a relationship...at any cost? If so, why?
* Is there something "wrong" with women who aren't in a relationship?
* Should women compromise their standards in order to have or maintain a relationship?
Carla does an exceptional job of bringing together the many interesting and varied responses about relationships and the roles males and females play. This is a topic that doesn't grow old and requires ongoing dialogue to better understand and appreciate the differences between men and women.
Carla Mitchell has always been interested in the dynamics that make up male-female relationships. In her book, she tackles the issue of male-female relationships with humor and compassion for today's single.
