Young African American Man Sacrifices Life for Single Mothers

Cederick Tardy II

Houston, TX (BlackNews.com) - In a day when many young men are focused on cars, clothes and women, author Cederick Tardy II, age 22, is on a mission to be a beacon of light for single mothers and the sons being raised by them. Tardy counsels single mothers who are raising boys, teaching them valuable life lessons regarding divorce, single parenthood and raising boys from a youth's perspective. These lessons are drawn from his recently released two novels dubbed "The Connection Series."

"The Connection Series" is comprised of The Big Payback, written as a positive payback to his mother who raised him as a single parent. It is a powerful tool for all mothers, whether single or married, on how to teach, discipline, lead and motivate their sons from the young man's perspective.

A Head Start is a virtual-mentoring tool for young men being raised by single mothers. The book teaches young men to respect authority, their mother and education. At the same time, it helps young men to see their teen years as an opportune time and not to waste their time. It is written in a way young men can relate to.

A product of a single mother household and raised in Houston, TX, Tardy found life without a father figure in the home and a mother busy at work to be a trap for the unattended naive. By the age of 13, Tardy had fallen prey to drugs, alcohol, vandalism and arrests. During his teen years, Tardy had been arrested five times, run away to Louisiana to fulfill his dream of being a dope dealer, and had attempted suicide.

In 2003, Tardy joined the U.S. Navy. There he learned discipline and order, and to respect authority, education and life in general. During his enlistment period, he started college, and began writing and mentoring young men. In 2007, he earned an honorable discharge, published "The Connection Series" and graduated college with a Bachelor's degree in finance.

Tardy blames none of his mistakes on his parents, but he believes had they known what growing up without a father in the home was going to do to him mentally, emotionally and spiritually, they would have made different choices.

He does attribute his turnaround to discovering who he is in Christ.

Tardy has devoted his young life to telling his story and providing single mothers and their son's a roadmap through the teenage years. Nearly 80 percent of incarcerated men are sons of single mothers. Cederick hopes to lower that statistic.

Tardy has received many testimonies regarding "The Connection Series." Several follow:

"WOW... I am so excited about buying your books. I think that my son and I will read them together. Sometimes it gets lonely out here in the single mom world, but with brothers like you, it inspires me to keep on keepin' on." Carolyn (Virginia)

"You have inspired me to be my best and educated me on what it takes to have a better life. This book, "A Head Start," is flawlessly the best book for the male of today." Timothy (Texas)

"An extraordinary book! One-of-a-kind! You won't find it anywhere. A must-read for pastors, teachers and every single parent." Dr. Alvin Augustus Jones, The Paradise Radio Network, WCBQ-WHNC-AM

Tardy wants to make a difference in lives and communities. He has begun taking his message to schools and colleges, youth camps, correctional facilities, churches and faith-based organizations, non-profit organizations and seminars and workshops large and small. He speaks to youths as well as adults on the tools desperately needed to lead, teach and motivate young men.
