The Princess
Briana (A Black Princess) Book Tour Is Coming Through
Washington, DC
(BlackNews.com) - The Princess Briana book tour represents
the first Black princess on the same level as Snow White and
Cinderella. According to research done by clinical psychologists,
Black children that do not see images of themselves consistently
in fairytales and storybooks tend to have lower self-esteem
and a poorer self-image.
The Princess Briana
fairytale has had tremendous success with raising the self-esteem
of Black children. Parents and teachers rave with excitement
about the Princess Briana fairytale inspiring their children
to read and feel better about themselves (see customer quotes

AOL's
Black Voices called the author of Princess Briana, Yaba
Baker, the new face of Black children's literature.
The impact of Princess Briana on young girls is best
described in their own words. Rachel, age 11, said,
"It teaches you no matter what color you are, no matter
how big you are, or how skinny you are, that you should
be proud of who you are, no matter what."
Aolean, age 10 had a deeper perspective, "Its like God
blessed you with a story that you thought would never
come out."
The Princess Briana book tour promises to be more than
just a book signing. At each tour stop the children
play games, win prizes, and participate in storytelling.
The girls are bestowed the title of princess and the
boys in attendance are bestowed the title of prince.
Some lucky children will get toy crowns to take home.
Near the end of the event, the author signs books.
Yaba Baker said, "The positive feedback from parents
and their daughters has been overwhelming at these events.
Millions of young girls need to be told that it is okay
not to look like Snow White or Cinderella. You can be
a princess with a thicker nose, dark skin, kinky hair,
and full lips. Our little Black girls need to see a
beautiful Black princess that looks like them. To my
knowledge there isn't another fairytale about a Black
princess dealing with this issue."
The Princess Briana book can be ordered at any major
bookstore using the title and the author's name, Yaba
Baker. Customers can receive an autographed first edition
Princess Briana book (while supplies last) if they order
directly from the publisher at www.justlikemebooks.com/shop.html
during the month of October.
