BAMPAC Expresses Opposition To Bennett Comments

Nation's Largest Minority Political Action Committee Calls for Retraction and Apology

Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) - In a statement released today, Black America's Political Action Committee (BAMPAC) expressed strong opposition to recent comments made by former Secretary of Education William Bennett on his syndicated radio program in response to a caller.

BAMPAC President and CEO Alvin Williams said, "Mr. Bennett's recent remarks insinuating that the murder of black babies would reduce the nation's crime rates were inappropriate and indefensible regardless of the context in which they were made. BAMPAC promotes a society in which all lives are valued equally and it is our hope that Mr. Bennett will not only retract his remarks from the past week but will refrain from such offensive statements in the future."

"As an organization committed to preserving the sanctity of human life, we challenge those in opposition to Mr. Bennett's statement to go beyond the rhetoric and address the underlying issue of the remark. Abortion is the leading killer of African Americans, a reality that should inspire similar outrage among African American leaders responding to Mr. Bennett's comments. As we respond with fervor to his comments, we must simultaneously focus our energy on actively promoting a culture of life in our community by preserving the sanctity of all human life."
