Author - Veronica Blakely

Tampa, FL (BlackNews.com) - Veronica Blakely has opened a can of worms and an opportunity for some dialogue with her new book of poems about relationships (or the lack thereof) in the African American community. The book titled, I Want What Most White Women Got: A Black Man looks at how the issue of skin color has been rekindled as to why some Black men prefer women who are "light" or white. While Black men have always dated white women, the influx does seem to have increased in the past few years.

Veronica, a dark-skinned divorcee, writes poems about how Black men (some who are also dark-skinned) treat women of the same complexion as if they were invisible. In addition, she wrote poems that reflect the affirmation of beauty that all African American women possess in spite of being snubbed by 'Brothas'.

The introduction addresses how light-skinned Black women who have "white like" features are given positive roles in the media as well as in corporate promotions over their dark-skinned 'Sistahs'. Clayte Morgan, LCSW states that, "Veronica has kicked in the emotional doors of bewilderment, hurt, denial and indifference this topic generates in the sisterhood. This book is real and from the heart!"

Let's not forget leading ladies in the movies and on TV programs acting opposite leading Black men. Yes, most of them have been every race but Black as if Black women cannot play the role of a leading lady. With this image promoted so prevalently, it seems that some Black males are taking the same route of choosing mates who are only "light" or white. Craig Bythewood, PhD states, "Sisters have spoken of this issue privately for years and now it appears we must go public and discuss the pain these Sisters are feeling of rejection from their own kind."

Veronica has dedicated a section of the book to women on areas of personal improvement and growth. Comments like: "Look for a God fearing man and not just a good feeling man" or "Are you building a wealth cycle or a welfare cycle?" are sure to spark a level of interest that will make women think about their actions. The book wraps up with several descriptions of Brothers in the B.M.W. section which stands for, "Black Men Wanted."

The book will be released later this fall by Infinity Publishing Company and it is sure to open a dialogue on the subject of relationships in the African American community. The book will be available for purchase through the author's website: www.vs-voice.com
