Trenton, NJ (BlackNews.com) - The Democratic State Committee of New Jersey is focused on getting voters out to the polls as the countdown to the gubernatorial elections narrows and voters make their final decisions.
Launched in August of this year, the Yes We Can 2.0 campaign was created to continue the process and the progress of the Democratic ideals set forth with the 2008 Presidential election. Inspired by President Obama's historic campaign, 2.0 is steeped in the community organizing principles of Respect, Empowerment and Inclusion. Critical issues such as economic growth, accessible and affordable healthcare, tax relief for the middle class and quality public education for all are top of mind for New Jersey voters and the Democratic Party.
In 2008, voters elected a President who embraced change and offered hope to all Americans. Yes We Can 2.0 reminds voters that the work was not finished with one election. Elections such as the gubernatorial election on November 3 in New Jersey is another opportunity for voters to make their voices heard and set the stage for the mid-term 2010 elections when 37 governships, 38 senate seats, and the entire house of representatives are up for re-election.
"This is a tough race for us - parents, students, business owners -- voters," stated Dr. Randal Pinkett, President and CEO of BCT Partners, LLC, Season 4 winner of NBC's hit reality show The Apprentice, who sits on the Campaign Board is dedicating his time to make sure New Jersey residents get out to vote. "We are all concerned about the economy, health care and simply surviving the recession. But we must not rest on the laurels of the 2008 presidential election. We must continue to push the Democratic Party's agenda for a stronger and better New Jersey and continue to move forward in a positive direction."
During these difficult times, it is essential that political leaders hear the voices of their constituents; the voices of the voters who come out and encourage their leaders to fight for their needs and guide the community to a common good -- a good that protects the most vulnerable, offers foreclosure relief, creates jobs, stimulates business and preserves minority businesses, fights for federal stimulus for the state, builds schools and strengthens public education, while helping working families and protecting children. These are the ideals of the Democratic Party and these are the issues and concerns that are on the line. "This is too important an election for voter apathy," concludes Dr. Pinkett. "We must come out and make our voices heard."
The Yes We Can 2.0 Campaign was created to encourage voter participation and remind voters of the importance of state and local elections. Building off the momentum of President Obama's successful 2008 campaign, Yes We Can 2.0 advocates pro-active voter participation in government for a better and stronger New Jersey and America. www.njdems.org
