How to Heal from Abuse: Virtue Today Magazine Provides a Healing for Women
Fall 2009 issue of Virtue Today featuring Erykah Badu |
Protectors of Virtue |
Raleigh, NC (BlackNews.com) - There is a saying that claims, "There is no such thing as a no good woman...if so, she was made by a no good man." Well, the publisher of Virtue Today Magazine, feels that both men and women are wounded souls that cause "hurting people to hurt people." The new issue of Virtue Today ordained the "healing issue," provides a healing for just about every major issue a woman could face from the hurt of sexual abuse to infidelity to financial issues. Articles include: "Breaking the Silence," an article about sexual abuse, "How to Heal from the Pain of Infidelity," and "A Man who Inspired the World," provides a unique look at the pain Michael Jackson endured. The Fashion section provides a solution to the some of the "unflattering and revealing designs of today" by featuring beautiful modest garments in a layout called, "Act like a Lady; Dress like a Queen."
Grammy Award winning songstress, Erykah Badu, is featured on the cover of the current issue of Virtue Today Magazine, and sent the publisher, Audrey Flowers-Muhammad, a word of support via email. It is clear that Ms. Flowers-Muhammad understands the pain women can endured. Her understanding is evident in highlighted quote she placed in the editor's note. "There is no circumstance in your life that is negative if you have a positive attitude towards what is deemed negative." The publisher says that Oprah is perhaps the only one she would consider telling her story to, but admits she still has healing to do. "I want women to know how valuable they are and how valuable their children are. As women we suffer, but there are still good men out there. It is all about seeing the glass half full instead of half empty."
Along with this issue, Virtue Today Magazine launched the "Protectors of Virtue Campaign," the goal of which is to educate women and men about the signs of domestic violence and sexual abuse and provide resources for them. The logo, which features the slogan "More Valuable than Silver and Gold," depicts a man holding a woman and child as if they are in a jewelry box. Virtue Today's goal is to turn "pain into progress," uplift the value of family and provide a healing to every woman and child who has ever been abused. The movie Precious may show the pain, but Virtue Today provides the healing.
Virtue Today also wants to acknowledge and uplift men who are doing the right thing and are "protectors of Virtue." This issue provides websites and agencies that will help women and children. Look for more information in the next issue which has received words of support from CSI actor Hill Harper, Hip Hop guru Russell Simmons, Rocsi of BET's 106 & Park and many others.
