Actor Hill Harper and Virtue Today Magazine Team Up to Empower Young Black Women

Audrey Muhammad and Hill Harper

Raleigh, NC (BlackNews.com) - Last year the NAACP held a mock funeral to bury the N-word; this year, Virtue Today Magazine is forming partnerships to not only banish the B-word, but to empower young women. Virtue Today, a refreshing new women's magazine based out of Raleigh, North Carolina, is enhancing how women view themselves around the country. The magazine, which has subscribers across the country and in Europe, highlights the good qualities of women and men of color, particularly in the African American Community. Virtue Today was honored to be a media sponsor for the "Empower Me...Don't Judge Me Tour" launched by Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network(WEEN) on June 28, 2008. (Kimora Lee Simmons, ex-wife of Hip-Hop mogul, Russell Simmons, is the group's spokeswoman.) The current edition of Virtue Today features WEEN's executive director, Valeisha Butterfield. At the event, Hollywood CSI actor Hill Harper agreed to team up with Virtue Today and share with the readers of the woman's magazine advice he gives to young women in his new book, Letters to a Young Sister: Define Your Destiny.

The message in Hill Harper's new book for young women is in alignment with Virtue's message of empowerment and inspiration. It is not everyday that a"Hollywood Hunk" presents himself as a "big brother" and not only gives sincere and honest advice to young women. Moreover, he writes a book about it and seeks the courageous advice of other influential women in the entertainment industry who have helped to transform his life.

Unlike other women's magazine, Virtue Today features only modest but stylish fashions and inspiring and informative articles that are based on righteous principles. Righteous principles, not modern trends fuel Virtue Today Magazine. The magazine's purpose is to help women 'feel good, look great and accomplish much.' Editor, Audrey Muhammad says, "I want this magazine to show women we are the epitome of beauty, class and intelligence. We can be sensual and righteous, modest, but stylish. It is an honor to have Hill Harper's wisdom featured in a guest column in the next issue."

The idea to present Hill Harper with the partnership came after he visited Torchlight Academy, a K-5 charter school, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Ms. Muhammad, whose daughter attends the school, was impressed with how the Hollywood actor took time to visit the students after a late night book-signing in the area. The students were having a sleepover event to prepare for upcoming tests when they found out that one of their teachers attended Mr. Harper's book-signing and invited him to the school. The students were elated and the editor of Virtue Today Magazine was impressed.

It is a courageous and admirable feat for an actor to take the time help empower young women. In the introduction of his book, Mr. Harper says, "My hope is that this book will educate, uplift and inspire."

In the entertainment world where sex sells and video vixens rule, virtue is a luxury more and more people are desirous of seeing, especially for their little girls. Sex may sell, but "virtue" is priceless.
