TV One Celebrates Its Fifth Anniversary on Martin Luther King Holiday Monday, Jan. 19 with a Two-Hour Anniversary Special of TV One on One with Cathy Hughes at 9 PM ET

In honor of TV One's fifth anniversary on Jan. 19, Cathy Hughes hosts a two-hour TV One on One, looking back at some of the show's most ineresting moments, including the series' first episode, an interview with a state senator from Illinois running for the U.S. Senate, Barack Obama. Comedian and actor Sinbad helps her keep things light during the special.
Silver Spring, MD (BlackNews. com) - In a week when its schedule is chock-full of special programming devoted to the inauguration of the USA's first African American President, TV One also celebrates its fifth birthday on the Martin Luther King holiday Monday, Jan. 19 at 9 PM (all times ET) with a two-hour anniversary special featuring highlights from its long-running interview series, TV One on One. Hosted by Radio One Chairperson and acclaimed former radio talk show host Cathy Hughes, TV One on One features interviews with some of the most intriguing and newsworthy public figures and celebrities in America today.
During the special, which repeats at midnight that night, Ms. Hughes takes a look back at some of the most memorable moments, the controversies and interesting topics from her interviews, including the first-ever episode of TV One on One, in which she interviewed Barack Obama, then a candidate for the U.S. Senate from Illinois, in 2004. Comedian and actor Sinbad stops by to help keep things light during the evening. The two take a look back at some of the special performances Ms. Hughes has coaxed out of her guests, including dancing with Usher; Jamie Foxx on the piano with surprise guest Regina King by his side; Terrence Howard playing guitar and singing a song he composed; Aretha Franklin playing "Canadian Sunset" on the piano; James Ingram serenading Quincy Jones with "Just Once," the song Jones produced and they made famous together; and Beyoncé performing at Radio One.
Ms. Hughes takes a look at what her guests have had to say about being black in the entertainment business, from Samuel L. Jackson's comments on finding work as a black actor in his early career, to Chris Rock's on shopping a black show (Everybody Loves Chris) in Hollywood, to Jamie Foxx on being black in Hollywood and having leverage to Tyler Perry on why Hollywood doesn't work for him to Mo'Nique on blacks and women in Hollywood.
The special also explores some of the more provocative or controversial issues or comments addressed by TV One on One guests over the years, including Jamie Foxx on Michael Jackson and R. Kelly, Terrence Howard on pimps, prostitution and Hustle and Flow, Will Smith on kissing men in movies, Denzel Washington on Bill Cosby's controversial comments about black folks, Tyler Perry on his stereotypical images and their critics, and, on a more personal note, Chris Rock on marriage and talking about his wife in his comedy act.
Image and style are prime topics as well, with a look back at Beyoncé's comments on being overweight as a child, Patti LaBelle on her image and why she always leaves the house well dressed, Keyshia Cole on her image and tattoos, and Usher on his style and being a sex symbol, among others.
Over the past five years, Ms. Hughes has conducted candid and freewheeling interviews on TV One on One with Denzel Washington, Beyoncé, Will Smith, Samuel L. TV One's anniversary programming is part of a special holiday weekend with programming honoring President-elect Obama and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., celebrating TV One's fifth anniversary and covering live the inauguration and related activities .
Also, on Monday, Jan. 19, TV One will air:
* King, the six-hour mini-series starring Paul Winfield and Cicely Tyson, from noon - 6 PM. This Emmy Award-winning mini-series also aired on the Martin Luther King holiday 2004, TV One's first day on the air; and
* TV One premieres one of two, new, original documentaries about our 44th President: Barack Obama: The Man and His Journey, premiering from 8-9 PM. This film from Verdicus Films, Ebony/Jet Entertainment Group and Codeblack Entertainment, explores the dynamics of change in America through an intimate look at the personal and political journey of President-elect Barack Obama. Barack Obama: The Man and His Journey is narrated by actor and director Blair Underwood.
Sunday, Jan. 18
* In preparation for the inauguration of our 44th President, TV One premieres another all-new original documentary, Believe: The Barack Obama Story, from 8-9 PM which chronicles the life and political career of our upcoming Commander-in-Chief. The film is produced by On the Potomac Productions, a Washington, DC-based media company that has produced award-winning documentaries about the "Godfather of Soul" James Brown and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
* This special is followed from 9-10 PM by MLK: The Making of a Holiday, a documentary hosted by LeVar Burton that chronicles the life and accomplishments of Dr. King and the quest by many politicians and celebrities to honor his birthday as a national holiday.
Tuesday, Jan. 20
* TV One offers 24 hours of coverage in honor of the inauguration of President Barack Obama, beginning at 7 AM, with a mix of documentaries and interviews of President-elect Obama and First Lady To-Be Michelle Obama. At 10 AM, live coverage of the inauguration and the parade begins, anchored by Joe Madison and Art Fennell, the team that led TV One's live coverage of the Democratic National Convention and election night in Chicago's Grant Park, will begin and air until approximately 6 PM.. Joining the anchors throughout the day will be Tom Joyner, Rev. Al Sharpton, TV One commentator Roland Martin, Tom Joyner Morning Show news correspondent Jacque Reid, pollster Shawnta Wolcott, and Russ Parr Morning Show personality Alfredas.
* From 6-10 PM, TV One commentator Roland Martin will host an evening devoted to the new President, including Martin's personal insights and observations about the man and his historic Presidency. The night will also feature special programming, including the documentary Barack Obama: The Man and His Journey; Martin's NAACP Image Award-winning interview, In Conversation: The Senator Barack Obama Interview; and In Conversation: The Michelle Obama Interview, the interview Martin conducted for TV One with the incoming First Lady as a precursor to the Democratic National Convention in August.
* TV One's live evening coverage, which airs from 10 PM - midnight, will be co-anchored by Jacque Reid and Democratic strategist Jamal Simmons, with contributions from Ebony magazine Creative Director Harriette Cole, urban style and culture expert Michaela Angela Davis, TV One Turn Up the Heat host G. Garvin, and Jamal Munnerlyn of TV One Access, who will report from multiple balls and high-profile inaugural events around Washington. TV One will offer a wrap up of the day's events from midnight - 1 AM, and re-air the Inaugural Ball coverage from 1-3AM, with a mix of interviews and additional coverage from 3 AM - 7 AM.
