South Orange, NJ (BlackNews.com) - For its annual spring fundraiser gala, SOPAC (South Orange Performing Arts Center) will host a spectacular event on June 7 featuring three incredible artists who are each part of a vintage soul revival. Whereas last year SOPAC toasted jazz and the legendary Nancy Wilson, this year SOPAC salutes American soul music with Angie Stone, Phoebe Snow and Ryan Shaw, all Grammy Award-recognized artists. A.J. Calloway, a host of the long-running entertainment program, "Extra," and a member of SOPAC's Board of Advisors, will emcee the grand event.

Each artist will perform individual sets but expect several surprises along the way. The evening will begin with a pre-show reception in SOPAC's Grand Lobby sponsored by WaMu and Beringer Wines. After the 8pm concert extravaganza, the party will continue upstairs in the Loft at SOPAC with a dessert and dance party reception with DJ Nicholson, cocktails with Rain Vodka and catering provided by Restaurant MC of Millburn. Valet parking will be coordinated by Advanced Parking Concepts.

The SOPAC Gala Committee is co-chaired by Sam Joseph of ReMax Realty and HGTV's show, "Bought & Sold." Joseph formerly advised Macy's Department Stores as a design executive overseeing window display. His co-chair is Angela Burt-Murray, SOPAC Board of Governors member, Editor-in-Chief of Essence Magazine and a commentator on NBC's "Today Show." Other Gala Committee members include actress/singer Suzzanne Douglas; SOPAC Board member Derek M. Murphy, an executive with Time Warner; and Gale Monk, who oversees the Thelonious Monk estate and foundation.

Artists

Angie Stone. Singer/songwriter/actress Angie Stone is much in demand for her modern old-soul meets the new groove sound. Just nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance for her new Stax Records CD, The Art of Love & War, she has one of the most powerful voices in R&B and a playful personality that always moves the crowd.

Phoebe Snow. Phoebe Snow's debut CD in 1974 featured the now iconic "Poetry Man" and landed her on the cover of "Rolling Stone." She was a star out of the gate and has remained one of the most distinctive voices in popular music with her rare, perfect blend of folk, blues, rock and soul. Her rare engagements sell out quickly.

Ryan Shaw. Featured at SOPAC last October before his Grammy nomination for Best Traditional R&B Vocal, Ryan Shaw is someone SOPAC couldn't wait to bring back. In Sam Cooke-meets-Ray Charles style, this 27-year-old singer/songwriter is reviving vintage American music and stirring up a soul revival. And everyone from Joss Stone to Van Halen is taking notice.
