Souls of My Sisters Set to be Honored With the WBNA/New York Liberty Women of Inspiration Awards

Candace Sandy and Dawn Marie Daniels

New York, NY (BlackNews.com) - Dawn Marie Daniels and Candace Sandy, publishers and co-authors of Souls of My Sisters Books, an imprint of Kensington Publishing Corp., will be honored with the WNBA/New York Liberty Women of Inspiration Award on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Madison Square Garden during the NY Liberty vs. the Sacramento Monarchs game. The Women of Inspiration Awards recognizes New York-area women who are dedicated to changing the lives of others and making a difference in our communities.

"Candace Sandy and Dawn Daniels embody the goal of the WNBA/New York Liberty to develop leaders that sustain and strengthen their communities and are role models to young women," stated Kym Hampton WNBA Veteran and New York Liberty Fan Facilitator. "We’re honored to recognize both Candace and Dawn in their achievement and contribution to our local community."

Sandy and Daniels will receive the Women of Inspiration Award in recognition for their work in developing books to encourage women of color, and in assisting women in reaching their full potential particularly women who are victims of domestic violence and women rebounding from the recession.

Souls of My Sisters started over ten years ago. It was founded by Sandy and Daniels, high school friends who shared a vision of changing the lives of black women.

Dawn Marie Daniels has edited many New York Times bestselling books and has utilized her talents to ensure that African American projects get the attention they deserve. Candace Sandy is the President of Candace Sandy Communications, a multi-media cooperative that targets women. For eleven years, she has also served as the Communications Director for Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY).

Daniels and Sandy wrote and edited their first book, the Essence #1 national bestseller, Souls of My Sisters: Black Women Break Their Silence, Tell Their Stories and Heal Our Spirits (Kensington Publishing, 2000, 2008), so that women could openly and honestly discuss their most intimate concerns, feelings, and challenges. With input from celebrities and not-so-well-known women and spiritual leaders, the diverse Souls contributors bonded together in print to discuss the issues that touched their lives, including matters of: self-discovery, money, marriage, love and much more.

In September, 2009 Daniels and Sandy will kick off their Tears To Triumph: Women You Are Not Forgotten multi-city, national tour of forums, discussion groups, and other learning-based events based on their upcoming book: Tears to Triumph: Women Learn to Live, Love, and Thrive (Souls of My Sisters Books, September 2009) co-authored with Dr. Jarralynne Agee. In these forums, women nationwide will be given unique tools and perspectives of support, solace, and active encouragement in facing today’s bigger-than-ever personal challenges.
