Dominican Hair Salons & Products Wooing African Americans

Jennifer Drew, founder of RoundBrushHair.com after getting her hair done at a local Dominican hair salon.

Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) - In times past, only women living New York City could boast about the wonders of Dominican hair salons. Now Dominican salons are popping up in Houston, DC, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit and everywhere in between! RoundBrushHair.com, a website created by then 25 year-old Jennifer Drew helps Dominican stylist/salons reach and communicate with African American women and provide Dominican hair products to women and salons.

"95% of the Dominican salon clientele is African American; and although they're quickly expanding outside of New York, they're hard to find. In addition, the language and cultural barrier makes it hard for the stylists to promote their services and products - that's the reason I started the website," says the native Washingtonian founder who studied in the Dominican Republic after finishing her Economics degree in the area. The website offers a locator where women type in their zip code and surrounding Dominican hair salons come up with the option to read/write reviews. The site also serves as an online retail to learn about and purchase Dominican hair products.

Dominican salons are taking the black hair industry by storm because they specialize in afro-textured hair and offer fast, affordable service. "They're popping up all over the country...Dominican stylists have a system where they get women-in and they get women-out. They're receptive to work schedules, parents with busy schedules and with this economy -- their price points allow you to save," says Glynn Jackson, TV/radio personality, commentator and creator of 'The Golden Scissor's Awards' in an interview about the growing popularity of Dominican hair salons and products.

African American women are raving about how their hair has never been healthier and they're seeing lengths they never thought possible. Creator of RoundBrushHair.com says "It's a combination of using Dominican products -- which helps our hair retain moisture and the simple roller-set style that Dominican stylists have mastered that contribute to the healthy long hair you see walking out of Dominican hair salons across the country everyday."

RoundBrushHair.com headquarters and warehouse is located 20 minutes outside of Washington, DC. They currently work with over 100 Dominican salons outside of the New York City area to bridge the cultural and language barrier in reaching African American clients. RoundBrushHair.com also educates and provides women with Dominican hair products to care for their hair regularly.
