Nationwide (June 20, 2011) -- Where can one learn to be successful in business and in every area of life? Learn from the experts. Produced by Zhana, author of Success Strategies for Black People and Black Success Stories, the More Black Success ebooks feature Black experts in a range of fields - business, education, health, parenting and more. They give blueprints for how to achieve success. And there is no charge for More Black Success.
More Black Success features Black experts from different parts of the world, whose work contributes to the enhancement, upliftment and inspiration of Black communities around the globe.
In More Black Success Volume 10, Melinda Emerson, author of Become Your Own Boss in 12 Months, explains how she used Twitter to make her book a bestseller.
Emerson, known as SmallBizLady on Twitter, has over 16,500 followers. She is just one of the business gurus interviewed in MBS10. Like all of the ebooks in the series, MBS10 contains lots of practical advice and information.
Other contributors include:
* London-based Andrea Campbell, author of Practical Business - ABC, and
* London-based PR guru Mavis Amankwah of Rich Visions, offering expertise in all aspects of equality and diversity
They are very honest and open about the difficulties they have experienced, and how they have overcome them.
Zhana, the publisher of the More Black Success series, says, "It is so important to celebrate Black success. We have so many wonderful, amazing examples of successful Black people in our own communities. The Black community has been stereotyped as producing the greatest athletes and entertainers, but the truth is that Black people are good at everything. Because of this process of stereotyping, Black people have adopted some of these stereotypes and applied them to themselves, thinking of themselves as having limited potential. But it is possible to overcome these negative images to achieve a more positive, life-enhancing view of oneself. The more Black people, including parents, young people and others, read stories of Black success, the more they can begin to see what people of African heritage are truly capable of."
A few years ago, someone wrote a book in which he said that in order to be successful, we need to think like white people. Zhana strongly disagrees, saying, "We don't need to think like white people, we need to think like successful Black people".
Recently, on the What U Need to Know radio show, which Zhana co-presents with Joan Gosier, someone called in and was talking about books where Black people can learn about how to be successful in business. He mentioned Think and Grow Rich and he also mentioned Robert Kiyosaki.
Zhana comments, "It's fine to read those books, because we can learn from anybody. And there are plenty of successful Black people we can learn from. We have many, many successful people we can learn from in our own community, who reflect us culturally."
What can Black people learn from each other internationally?
The More Black Success ebooks feature Black people from a range of different backgrounds including African American, African Caribbean, and people from Africa. And from a range of fields.
For example, MBS 5 contains an article by Mercy Gilbert of Art Connoisseur about how to build your business. She talks about her work as a business advisor. Plus Basmatie Littles, a young Black woman entrepreneur from Guyana, writes about how she started and built her Karma Kidz fashion business.
In MBS 3, Shola Arewa talks about how to help and inspire your customers to find the money they need to pay for your services.
African people around the globe have a shared history, and there is a great deal they can learn from each other.
Business people are often facing the same challenges. It doesn't matter if they are from the Caribbean or from Africa, from Europe or from the United States. When they start talking and sharing their experiences, they often find they are facing the same challenges: trouble getting finance, getting government contracts and tenders. Then there is the problem of Black people not wanting to buy from Black-owned businesses.
So these are some of the challenges Black businesses face, and Black people need to learn from each other, for everyone's benefit.
These ebooks contain a lot of practical advice and information. More Black Success publishes practical advice and information for writers, for business people, and for people in a range of fields including healthcare, parenting, and more.
More Black Success features people who are doing positive things in their communities. One of the most inspiring articles was by a lady called Dena Strong, who wrote an article in MBS 6 in which she talks about setting up a mentoring programme. She wanted to do something to help and support the young people in her community. She knew nothing about mentoring, but she did her homework and set up a very successful mentoring programme.
MBS also focuses on Black writers. For example, MBS 9 contains an interview with Bobby Richardson, author of the novel entitled The Neighborhood, about how a completely illiterate street thug transforms himself to become a respected and mega-successful businessman.
Richardson comments, "Education, ethics, intelligence, and excellence are empowering! These books are a great motivational tool for your sales force. And, if you work in education, or you work with young people or parents, they make great gifts. Because in order to achieve our goals, Black people need to learn from the experts. And that's what these books will help you to do."
