Marion Barry Accused of Stalking Woman
By The Associated Press
Former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry was accused of stalking a woman in D.C. on Saturday.
Washington (AP) - Washington, D.C. Council Member and former Mayor Marion Barry was arrested Saturday evening by police and charged with stalking a woman, police said.
U.S. Park Police said Barry was arrested after a woman flagged down an officer and complained Barry was stalking her. Barry was arrested, charged with misdemeanor stalking and then released.
A message left seeking comment from a spokeswoman for Barry wasn't immediately returned early Sunday.
Barry served four terms as mayor. In his third, he was videotaped in 1990 in a hotel room smoking crack cocaine in an FBI sting. He served six months in prison and in 1994 regained the mayor's office. In recent years, he has been under fire for failing to pay his income taxes on time, blaming it on kidney failure and a dialysis regimen. Earlier this year, Barry received a kidney transplant.
