Plantation, FL (BlackNews.com) - kisha's kids opened its virtual doors to reveal a fresh, one-of-a-kind, online retail boutique filled with contemporary and vintage-inspired décor and accessories, depicting beautifully illustrated images of African-American children.
see yourself! be yourself! - the position statement was born out of a mother's desire to find furnishings and accessories of the highest quality that were reflective of her kids; enter kisha's kids. Brown skin and curly hair, it seems, was almost impossible to find, so after four children and growing frustration to find quality and culturally diverse room accessories, Kisha Holt began to put thought to paper. Creative thoughts have now blossomed into brown-skinned ballerinas, fairies, athletes, firefighters, and more on wall art, area rugs, picture frames, books, dolls and other kinds of décor.
As an educator and a mother of African-American kids, Kisha understands the importance of children identifying with, and being inspired by positive images that are reflective of them. kisha's kids does more than provide boutique-quality products; it promotes self-appreciation and improves self-esteem. kisha's kids room décor and accessories beautify their environment with images of kids who look like them, doing things kids like to do. Children will see themselves reflected in everyday images that encourage them to be who they were meant to be, instead of being someone else.
Seeing Beyond Color
kisha's kids offers other merchandise to round out their line, and is a "one-stop shop" for babies and children of all ages. Besides wall art and picture frames that may have an African-American face, kisha's kids offers baby bibs, storage bins, bookends and other accessories that appeal to all children.
"Although kisha's kids was founded for the African-American market, we are not wholly focused on color in the types of images portrayed on the merchandise. Instead, the hope is to create a place where everyone, regardless of color, can shop for high-end home décor and accessories for babies, children and moms. Every piece will not have a child's image, but if there does happen to be an image of someone, he or she will have brown skin," Kisha Holt, president of kisha's kids.
Next Spring, the product lines will expand to include other races and ethnicities. Among others, kisha's kids will create quality décor products for Hispanic, Native American and Asian children.
