Atlanta, GA (BlackNews.com) - The Satcher family reunion lasted for three days, and from start to finish it was a lavish event that had many comparing it to a Hollywood party.
More than 150 Satcher family members arrived in Atlanta to attend the KFC Ultimate Family Reunion put on in their honor as the result of a winning essay written by Kathleen Satcher Wright of Huntsville, AL.
"From the initial shock and excitement of receiving notification that I was the grand prize winner of the 2009 KFC Ultimate Family Reunion Essay Contest to the nine months that followed of planning and following up with the KFC representative and event planner via weekly conference calls and email correspondences to the implementation of my vision and desires for the reunion, I was confident that the reunion would be nothing less than wonderful. The actual event, however, not only met but far exceeded my expectations. I walked away with a new outlook and prospective on KFC and its Pride 360 program for connecting, supporting, and giving back to what I believe is fundamentally the most important thing in life -- family," said Wright in a statement after the event.
Wright said she only found out about the national essay contest three days before the entry deadline and almost did not enter. Encouragement from family and friends resulted in a last-minute entry that had to be sent by next day service to arrive in time.
Contestants had to write a 500-word essay explaining why their family deserved to win the KFC Ultimate Family Reunion, and what makes their family reunions so special. Entries were judged based on originality, creativity, and positive spirit. Wright's winning essay and forthcoming video footage is available online at www.kfc.com/pride360
"I am thankful to KFC for choosing my essay and subsequently affording my family and myself the opportunity to experience a family reunion of a lifetime. The KFC Ultimate Family Reunion was truly a signature and stellar event for the Satcher Family...one we will not soon forget but will remember for the rest of our lives," said Wright of the experience.
The extravagant, three-day event included lavish decorations, red carpet treatment for Wright and all her family members, as well as entertainment, celebrations, music and dancing, high-value door prizes and gifts, and KFC food.
Wright and her family were saluted and honored with the KFC Pride 360 Award. Jermaine Higgins, KFC Multicultural Marketing Manager, presented the award to Wright for writing the winning essay. The inscription on the award reads: "What we honor today comes full circle tomorrow."
"KFC Pride 360 is proud and excited to host the 2009 Satcher Family Reunion. The Satcher Family truly represents the essence of KFC Pride 360...which means take pride in everything you do: Community, Heritage, Family and Individual. It's a great honor for KFC to be a part this great family reunion," said Higgins.
