Joshua "The Heart of a Warrior" Starts Filming
Choice Skinner and Recording Artist Lazarus Star in Joshua "The Heart of a Warrior"
Los Angeles, CA (BlackNews.com) - Principle photography will begin on the drama film Joshua "The Heart of A Warrior" starring Choice Skinner (The Shield, How I Met Your Mother), Farley Jackson (Cold Case, I Want To Be A Soap Star), Ouin Walters (April Fools, Bad City) and recording artist Lazarus Guidry (Alpha Dog). The movie directed by Addison Henderson (The Forgotten City) is based on a fictional story that centers on a mixed martial artist (played by Choice Skinner) who has to face life with a new found mental disability.
In a recent interview, director Henderson says "It was just one of those scripts that when he read it, he knew the story had to be told." He further adds "All the actors just jumped onboard and really connected with the characters during rehearsal. It felt very real and organic."
Actor and co-producer Farley Jackson added "This is a story about forgiveness and redemption but it also shows the effect that mental disability has on those who are in the affected person's circle of immediate family and friends. We're going to change the way people view independent films with the look, emotion and professionalism of this project."
Co-star Lazarus says I've acted in the past, but not at this level. "Playing the role of 'Rodney' has been a very new experience for me. It's different than recording or performing on stage because in those instances you bring people into your world. This project forced me to go to dark and intimate places in my mind and bring those feelings to life."
Joshua "The Heart of a Warrior" Synopsis
Joshua Jerreau is a five time mixed martial arts world champion. During an exhibition cage match against his best friend Malcolm Carleton, Joshua receives a powerful and damaging blow to his head from an elbow. Weeks later he emerges from a coma but is now mentally and physically impaired and has the brain activity and motor skills of a six year old due to oxygen deprivation. Joshua is abandoned by his fiancé and thrust into the care of his sister, Jennifer, who is also a young mother. Five years past and the mental and financial strains of caring for Joshua begin taking its toll on Jennifer and those around them. Malcolm enters back onto the scene seeking redemption and Joshua faces a new battle in the protection of himself and his family from Rodney, Jennifer's abusive boyfriend.
Principal photography on the independent film written by Choice Skinner and produced by Heart of a Warrior Productions & Knuckle City Films will begin July 25, 2008 in Los Angeles. Sponsors include Everlast, Sprawl & Fuze Drinks.
