Grace Today Magazine to Host Second Annual Awards Dinner Celebrating the Achievements of Women for National Women's History Month
Harvey, IL (BlackNews.com) - Grace Today Magazine, a national women's lifestyle magazine, will host its second annual Grace Today Awards Banquet to celebrate the achievements of women on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. Honorees for the event include: Michelle Williams, former singer with Destiny's Child, Jamell Meeks, wife of State Senator Reverend James T. Meeks, Advocate and Radio Host, Maureen Forte, classical soloist, educator and music critic, Barbara-Wright Pryor, and author, Cheryl Woodson, MD., of the Woodson Medical Center.
Grace Today Magazine has as its mission to inspire and motivate women to overcome inner and outer obstacles to become the very best woman, wife, mother and friend that she can be. "The purpose of this banquet is to honor women, known and unknown, for their achievements. There is nothing like this in Women's History Month that celebrates the achievements and stories of women," says Bathsheba Wyatt-Draper, writer of the Grace In Action column for Grace Today. "We also need a forum where we can tell our 'How I got over' stories to future generations. Oftentimes we feel alone in our struggles, but hearing the challenges others have faced will give those coming behind the courage to continue."
Tickets are available by calling 708-339-9301. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to benefit an organization that works with teen girls. Shawntrice Smith, editor of Grace Today notes, "The women of tomorrow are the girls of today. Much is being done in the media to undermine their sense of dignity and self esteem, but I believe we can help turn the tide on our young ladies' futures."
Television media partner for the celebration is NBC-5, and radio partner is 102.3 WYCA-FM. ShoreBank of Chicago is also a corporate sponsor.
Grace Today Magazine began publication in 2005, and has tackled issues such as HIV/AIDS among women, abuse from the male perspective, father-daughter relationships and many others. As a national women's lifestyle magazine written from a spiritual perspective, Grace Today tackles issues that often go undiscussed in many churches. Grace Today also features articles on health, relationships, fashion, money management and beauty. Michele Aikens, publisher of Grace Today says, "We are a magazine for the whole woman. We don't speak to her fashion sense and ignore her sense of right and wrong; we don't speak about her relationship with her man, her children or her job, and ignore her relationship with her Creator. Women are not designed to be cut in pieces. Grace Today speaks to the whole of who she is."
