| Don Abram Harris Cigars Lands Big Deal With Navy Exchange (NEX)
Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) -- Don Abram Harris Cigars, LLC recently landed a major sale with the Navy Exchange (NEX). The NEX is the US Armed Forces, BX, which is a common name for a type of retail store operating on United States military installations worldwide. Authorized patrons of the Navy Exchange (NEX) now also have the added convenience of shopping online with the launching of its new web-based store at www.myNavyExchange.com.
The Don Abram Harris Cigar line was first introduced at the 76th Annual International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association (IPCPR) Trade Show in Las Vegas, NV, July 13-18, 2008. The reviews for the new line of cigars were positive and are now on a steady pace towards growing nationally. Don Abram Harris Cigars come in some of the most recognizable sizes and wrappers born from Puerto Rico's tropical soil including the Churchill, the Robuso and the Corona (crown) with the Maduro wrapper from Brazil and the Cameroon wrapper from Africa, each with its own distinct aroma and flavorful taste.
What is particularly distinctive about the Don Abram Harris Cigar Company is that it is owned by the first African American Cigar manufacturer ever in the United States. There may be occasion for this information to be documented in the Guinness book of world records.
Minority businesses face a number of challenges in getting started and continuing; and Mr. Harris, owner of Don Abram Harris Cigars indicated he has encountered first-hand the challenges most minority entrepreneurs face - lack of financing, lack of information and poor customer service from people in the business arena who should know, but give you the run-around - which can be very frustrating.
So what has been the motivation and drive that has kept Don Abram Harris Cigars moving forward? According to Mr. Harris, what has kept him going is his tenacity- his persistence to solve the problem that will enable him to go to the next level; a natural talent for business; dedication to what he believes; determination to see it through and not give up and most of all his vision for Don Abram Harris Cigars. "It’s my dream and it’s coming true".
One of major highlights that has been critical to helping the company overcome it’s obstacles is, according to Mr. Harris, "Along the way I can honestly say I have met some great people who were literally anxious to help. I have also met some absolutely worthless folks who have forgo9en what customer service is all about."
"One of the great people that I had the pleasure to meet was a guy name Tim Maloney. Tim is the tobacco buyer for the Navy Exchange (NEX) and the first major company to actually give my cigars a try. While a lot of companies talk about diversity in the work place, I believe Tim put it into action. I mentioned Tim Maloney not only because he is giving my product a try, but because he treated me like a human being without prejudice, without any back door deals or favors, just a buyer who purchased tobacco from me, a man that sells tobacco. I don’t believe this deal was about diversity. It was about a buyer who is honorable, who displayed true character and integrity. You see, this man's attitude was right. He not only viewed me as an equal, but acted accordingly."
According to Mr. Harris, "There are too many people in our society who get the word honorable as part of their title or position. But the reality is some of them don’t deserve none of it. Honorable is a title that is earned and acted on and not just a title that can be given to anybody. I haven’t met too many people in my lifetime that I would actually consider honorable. But Tim Maloney showed me what the word honorable stands for. He was truly the highlight along my way to help make my business become a success and a standard to judge others by. Working with Tim was the most meaningful and touching part of this sale to me."
So now, not only is Abram Harris the first African American tobacco manufacturer in the US, but he is the first African American tobacco manufacturer to sell cigars to the Federal Government. Now that’s something to talk about!
