Diversity Military World Heritage Expo 2008
30,000 Expect to Attend Nation's First Diversity Military Heritage Expo
Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) - On October 3rd and 4th, 2008, Diversity Military World. LLC (www.diversitymilitaryworldexpo.org or www.dmwe.org) will sponsor the first annual Diversity Military World Heritage Expo in Washington bringing together over 20 diverse and military organizations, including the Tuskegee Airmen, Buffalo Soldiers, FEW (Federally Employed Women), Montford Point Marines and the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network. The event is supported by the U.S. Department of Defense, and sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service, the U.S. Coast Guard, Northrop Grumman, the U.S. Marine Corps, The First TeeŽ, and corporations from IBM, Verizon Business, to Wal-Mart and Lockheed Martin. More than 30,000 active duty military members, reserves, guardsman, veterans, retirees, DOD civilians and their supporters are expected to participate in the two-day event at the National Gaylord Resort.
The DMWHE theme, "Preserving Our Diverse Military Legacy, Saluting Our Troops, Building Wealth for the Future, reflects the three-fold purpose of this national event. "In this election year, the Presidential candidates have brought the military to the forefront. This two-day EXPO salutes our men and women in uniform, their families, and all who support and appreciate their sacrifices," Commander (USN-Ret.) Gregory Black, National EXPO Chairman.
During the Youth Heritage Morning over 1,000 high school students, predominantly minority, will view the groundbreaking documentary, "For Love of Liberty: The Story of America's Black Patriots," and hear presentations from luminaries such as Olympic Gold Medalist Dominique Dawes.
The American Red Cross will also hold a blood donor drive as part of the Health Fair. Prominent physicians -- including Omega Logan Silva, MD MACP, Professor Emerita The George Washington University, will hold a free session on how minorities and women can prevent/manage diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease. Other key events include a national diversity military job fair; business opportunity fair and seminars such as "Multigenerational Managing," "Bringing Your "A" Game," "Overcoming Obstacles," "Doing Business With the United States Postal Service"; a national awards gala, which includes the DMW Awards for Outstanding Military Diversity Champions, the Madam C.J. Walker Award for Outstanding Business Achievement, the DMW Homefront Award, and the DMW 100 Awards for Outstanding Veteran-, Minority, and Women-Friendly Corporations; Education Fair; The First TeeŽ Family Outing and Golf Clinic; and the DMW All-Services Military Ball.
Dr. David S. Chu, Under Secretary of Defense, (Personnel and Readiness) will be the keynote speaker at the Diversity Military World Heritage Expo2008 National Military & Business Awards Gala on October 3, 2008. Mr. Clarence A. Johnson, Principal Director, Office of Diversity Management & Equal Opportunity, for the United States Department of Defense (DoD), will make a special presentation commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the desegregation of the US military.
Dr. Taffy Wagner, also a member of the DMWHE National Planning Committee and creator of the financial program, Debt Stops At The Altar, "Never before, in the history of our country, have minorities, women of all ethnicities, youth, corporations, non-profits, and small business owners all come together for such a time as this -- that's real change."
