Denver, CO (BlackNews.com) - The Denver Urban Spectrum, Colorado's premier community newspaper about people of color since 1987 has featured musical icon Quincy Jones as its 2009 November cover story. Jones was in Denver in October to receive the Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award -- named in his honor -- from the Global Down Syndrome Foundation where he was recognized for his leadership and life-changing humanitarian work.
Readers can learn about Jones' life from an up close and personal interview with DUS publisher Rosalind J. Harris and CoLours TV president Tracy Winchester. The ever-gracious showman and philanthropist shared his life's work, mission and what and who contributed to make him into the man he is today.
In addition to the print publication, Internet users can view the article on the publication's enhanced interactive multi-media Web site at www.denverurbanspectrum.com (or clicking directly at www.epaperflip.com/aglaia/viewer.aspx?docid=835b9dd658fe4eb9a247b1787973b6c2) including a three-minute video exert from the original interview with Jones, produced by CoLours TV (www.colourstv.org). By combining the editorial's content and display advertisements with audio and video for the last two months, denverurbanspectrum.com has increased its visitor hits from 7,500 to 15,000 per day for a monthly average of 500,000.
After perusing the Web site's new format, Denver City Councilman Michal Hancock said, "Congratulations! This is well done and very user friendly. In fact, it was fun to flip the pages! The audio and videos bring to life the stories and ads. Kudos for keeping up with new technologies and change in demand!"
"I did not read any of the articles but I did flip through the entire publication. First of all I was very pleased with the short amount of time it took for it to load. In today's world of instant gratification loading quickly is essential. I love the vibrant colors," said Emmy Award winning filmmaker Dante J. James.
Advertisers will also get a boost in exposure for their business, service or event with the placement of print ads in the monthly print publication. Because of the new digital page by page format, all display ads can be viewed globally with the click of a button.
The premiere digital e-Publications released in September and October have featured advertiser's videos from the Denver-based international dance company Cleo Parker Robinson Dance and CoLours TV, who displayed programming for Hispanic Heritage Month. And now, with the Denver Urban Spectrum's November 2009 e-Publication, visitors can view musical icon and philanthropist Quincy Jones in a taped interview by just clicking on the cover to activate the digital e-Publication.
For more than 23 years, the Denver Urban Spectrum has been spreading the news about people of color with a goal of connecting people to people. In addition to the monthly publication, other features of the Web site include the growing social network ConnectMe (http://denverurbanspectrum.ning.com) and the blog SpectrumTalk (http://blog.denverurbanspectrum.com) where bloggers with diverse views can be read. Out of town family members, friends and associates can get an inside look at the social scene in Denver by visiting the Around Town photo gallery at www.instantimagegallery.com/iig/c/729
