Yet Another Black Man Fatally Shot in the Back by a White Police Officer as He Ran Away!

Daniel Hambrick

Nashville, TN — Daniel Hambrick, a 25-year old African-American man, was killed after being shot in the back by a white cop while he was fleeing from a traffic stop as seen in surveillance video footage. Andrew Delke, the white police officer who shot him, has since been placed on administrative leave.

The incident which happened on July 26 was caught on a surveillance video released publicly on Wednesday. In the video, two people can be seen running — one is identified as Hambrick and the other one who just got out of the car is Delke.

With about 20 to 30 feet distance, Delke chased Hambrick before stopping to position himself and aiming his gun. Within seconds, Hambrick fell to the ground.

Police said that Hambrick was armed, even though the footage could not confirm it. According to reports, officers were searching for a stolen car in North Nashville that day when they found a car driving in an “erratic pattern.”

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Delke was the one who tried to stop the car but the driver drove away. He chased it until three men who were in the car earlier went out. He then pulled into an apartment complex and chased Hambrick, who was likely the driver.

Nashville Mayor David Briley has called for a “comprehensive review” of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s policing strategies.

“I don’t know if there is anything worse that a mother can experience other than losing her child,” Mayor Briley said.

In a press conference, Hambrick’s mother, Vickie, had shown disappointment for the incident. She believes Delke should be charged with homicide instead of being on paid leave.

“He was a great child,” Hambrick said. “I just want justice for my son. That’s all I ask for. And for all the young black guys and young women, I want justice for them.”

Hambrick’s family, together with the NAACP, calls for a more thorough civil rights investigation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
