Marijuana in the Name of Bob Marley — The Late Reggae Icon’s Family to Start Selling Legal Marijuana and Accessories

Bob Marley Branded Legal Marijuana

Nationwide — The Marley estate, with the help of a Seattle-based private equity firm, will soon be selling an official Bob Marley brand of marijuana called Marley Natural. Their slogan will be “a premium cannabis brand rooted in the life and legacy of Bob Marley.”

The late Bob Marley, a legendary Jamaican reggae artist who died in 1981, has left a global legacy behind and a brand that still generates millions of dollars in revenue every year. His estate continues to make tons of money from his records, apparel, energy drinks, and now a marijuana line.

But not just marijuana

The line, which will be launched in late 2015, will also include pot-infused creams (lotions and balms), accessories (such vaporizers in the style of e-cigarettes), and strains of “heirloom Jamaican cannabis,” which is said to be inspired by the herb that Marley himself liked to smoke.

Just how serious are they?

During a recent press conference, the family said this is “serious business”, and that the products will be cleanly packaged and marketed with the help of the same agency that branded New Balance and Starbucks Coffee. They are expecting Marley Natural to generate millions of dollars in annual revenue.

Brendan Kennedy, the CEO of Privateer Holdings, which owns Marley Natural, commented, “This is what the end of prohibition looks like. Bob Marley started to push for legalization more than 50 years ago. We’re going to help him finish it.”
