American Legacy Magazine and American Family Insurance Announce American Legacy Challenge Trivia Competition Cities for 2009
Program Includes Mobile Museum Tour Beginning in January
American Legacy Magazine will announce its 2009 American Legacy
Challenge Trivia Competition by deploying the American Legacy Black
History Mobile Museum to participating cities. American Legacy Challenge
took place last year at high schools in three U.S. cities.
New York, NY (BlackNews.com) - American Legacy, the Magazine of African American history and culture, and American Family Insurance announced today the four U.S. cities that will host the America Legacy Challenge 2009, the Black History high school trivia competition to educate high school students about America's legacy and the contributions of African-Americans, while providing the excitement of competition and prizes. This year's host cities will be: Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis and Atlanta.
To help students know their history, build anticipation of the American Legacy Challenge trivia competition and sign up students to participate in American Legacy Challenge 2009, American Legacy and American Family Insurance will take a Know Your History Mobile Museum to high schools in these cities beginning January 2009.
The American Legacy Know Your History Museum, an 18-wheel tractor trailer transformed into a Black history museum, will take high school students on a historical journey in Black history through the pages of American Legacy Magazine.
This will be the second year for the Black History high school trivia competition which launched earlier this year. The American Legacy Challenge will be based on questions from American Legacy's Black History Curriculum Guide which will be distributed to high schools as part of one of American Legacy's education initiatives.
"American Legacy Magazine is committed to helping all Americans know African American history and culture," says Rodney J. Reynolds, founder and publisher American Legacy Magazine. "Taking this Know Your History tour into high schools complimented with the African-American history curriculum assures us that we are helping our students get the information they need to not only know their history, but to evolve into productive members of this society."
This is the second straight year that American Family Insurance will sponsor the American Legacy Challenge. "American Family Insurance is pleased to partner with American Legacy Magazine to help make a difference in the lives of high school students in these cities," says Dwayne Maddox, media manager, American Family Insurance. "Education is so important and this is a fun and interesting way to engage students while teaching them history."
American Legacy Magazine is distributed nationwide to over 2 million readers through black churches, educational and cultural institutions. Celebrating its 14th year, American Legacy Magazine is available on newsstands and through paid subscriptions; American Legacy is a joint venture between RJR Communications Inc. and Forbes Inc.
